The role of a business development specialist involves the improvement of business through gaining more customers and ultimately gaining more sales. There are two main places that one may find business development jobs. There are many different business development firms that are contracted and used as valuable resources by a number of different companies. Many companies also directly hire business development professionals as a full-time employee of their company, leaving them to focus solely on the development of their products and business. Either way, there is a significant need for the business development professional.</P><P>A business development specialist will ultimately play one of two roles in the development of a business. The first is entirely sales oriented. This will involve the ability to improve a company&#8217;s client base and overall sales. To do this, specialist may focus on developing general sales or strategic-channel relationships. For this reason, an individual looking to find business development jobs must be able to develop leads on sales and follow up on sales activity, all the while being fully trained in all sales policies. The second role that may be played involves maintaining an operational function that is smoothly run and able to effectively support sales. Both roles are ultimately connected, however one focuses solely on sales and the other on the development of smooth operations.</P><P>There are a number of different skills that play an extremely valuable role in being a business development specialist. As mentioned earlier, a successful business developer has an extensive list in sales, therefore being able to efficiently boost a company&#8217;s sales and client list. Along similar line, marketing is an essential skill that anyone wishing to find business development jobs must have. One must be able to assess marketing opportunities as well as target markets. A successful development expert will have strategic skills, and be equipped to gather information on competitors which in turn will give the company he/she is working for an upper hand. A few more necessary skills include proposal management, legal skills, and most importantly financial skills and capabilities. A combination of the above skills is basically a recipe for a successful business development specialist.</P></p>
