This position is the primary customer-facing company representative in each local market. Our local market success depends entirely upon this position. Responsible for representing TDS METROCOM at local business, civic, charitable and media events. Working in conjunction with the Regional Marketing Manager, crafts a specific sales and marketing plan that will chart a course for meeting our objectives in the market. In addition, they are the eyes and ears of the Product Management & Development staff and the MarComm group.

This individual manages the local office, develops and leads the local sales team and thereby accomplishes our revenue and line objectives. Charged with recruiting and developing the sales team, which is a critical success factor. Further, the incumbent is fully responsible for leading a sales team to acquire new customers in the local market. This may include personal involvement on large and/or complex projects. In addition, the successful candidate must be committed to providing the necessary combination of personal production and successful coaching of the entire acquisition sales team to achieve the objectives.

The successful candidate must be in an ‘always teaching’ mode including orientation, on-the-job, product knowledge, competitive analysis, technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. The success of the acquisition sales team is dependent upon the leader’s knowledge, commitment and ability to communicate. Finally, must be able to win the confidence and trust of the team to ensure cohesiveness and consistency.

-Develop a tactical sales plan to meet the sales team’s monthly and annual line and revenue sales goals established by the supervisor. Report activity and results on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
-Lead the staff development efforts of the sales team and in the market by identifying, recruiting, hiring, supervising and coaching the acquisition sales force. Act as liaison with HR recruiting team and ensure 100% fill rate. Manage all HR needs including ORI process and cooperate with HR employee relations staff.
-Develop and present training for new sales professionals and for continuing education in the areas of TDS METROCOM solutions. Monitor employee development and direct staff to needed training to ensure high levels of employee performance and retention.
-Develop and personally conduct on-the-job training for new sales professionals including territory management, prospecting, needs analysis, proposing and closing. Engage other sales professionals as needed to bring new recruits along on sales calls to build confidence and share techniques.
-Take the lead on large and/or complex business sales. Close sales, gather all of the detailed information, develop a sales plan for the account, forward the sales package onto Order Coordination and maintain customer contact. Manage the customer account through transition to an Account Coordinator and participate in the upgrade as needed. Introduce the AC and maintain customer contact according to the account sales plan.
-Work closely with Regional Marketing Manager to develop market plans, gather competitive intelligence, generate leads, participate in public relations events and any other activities to support the market and the sales team. Provide feedback and direction to Product Management & Development Team as needed.

Required Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of outside sales experience OR 7+ years of outside sales experience
– Must have and maintain a valid drivers license

Other Qualifications
– 3+ years of telecommunications experience
– 2+ years of supervisory or sales management experience preferred
– Demonstrated history of success in telecommunications outside sales preferred
– Winning ‘can-do’ attitude and strong work ethic as evidenced by a track record of success in business, education or extracurricular activities
– Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to convincingly persuade others as evidenced in personal interviews and via telephone
– Ability to clearly and effectively set goals and then attain them as evidenced by a track record of setting goals, creating a work plan, establishing a reward, working diligently, measuring performance, adjusting as necessary and then accomplishing the goal.
– Confident and assertive air coupled with a time intensity that is evidenced by a track record of seizing the moment and bringing the appropriate amount of energy to upset complacency and effect change sooner than later.
– Curious and perceptive nature coupled with energy that is evidenced by a history of questioning the way things are, identifying opportunities and then effecting change with an eye toward making things better.
– Ability to work independently as evidenced by identifying problems, gathering data, weighing the facts, consulting others as necessary, making decisions and effectively implementing the decision.
